The ancient Egyptians had a peticular interest in death. In fact, they spent most of thier lives preparing fot it. It was believed that when a person died they would have to face judgement to determine whether they could enter the afterlife. This judgement ceremony was called the weighing of the heart. The heart was considered to be the most important organ in the body. It recorded all the good and misdeeds of that persons life. The heart was placed on a scale and weighed against the feather of Ma'at. Anubis watched over the process as Thoth recorded the outcome. If the person had lead a rightous life the heart would balance with the feather and he would enter paradise with Osiris. However, if the person had lead a life of misdeeds the heart would be heavy and it would be devoured by a beast.
